If There Is, I'm Screwed

A Softer World invertebrate tribute (the first in a long time). This is a Rossia pacifica, which as far as I'm aware of is not eaten for calamari and is not a true squid at all. This one was collected for research near Friday Harbor, WA. Mouse-over text: "if there is, I'm screwed"

Gold Star for Me!

I feel even more grown-up when I actually go out and get groceries, but in the meantime, this sense of accomplishment is pretty good.

(Also, dinner tonight was really good. I was totally a success.)

Something Must Be Done!

At lunch the other day one of my housemates looked at me and said, "Let's talk about your hair right now." I was fresh from cleaning with no hat in sight: ergo, the poofy hedgehog look.

Until tomorrow, friends. (As you can see, still fighting the tablet, but this hand-drawing really does bring me back to my first days of webcomicing...I kinda like it.)

What a Rebel

A TRS classic for this Sunday evening. I don't have any more days-of-the-week underwear, but I actually really miss the ones I had. They made me feel like a rebel.

Poor, Dead Chitons

I'm holding a fluffy Tonicella of some kind. Tomorrow I have to go to work so I can finish up part of my data collection. The work might involve me straining my eyes a lot and an update might not happen.

Also, I miss my long(er) hair, at least a little.

Pancake Addiction PSA

A public safety announcement from Octopod Adventures. The reason for this? Last night instead of drawing I made pancakes. Ah well, at least my addiction comes with maple syrup.

And as you can see, the tablet and I are still fighting. Perhaps we'll end this bitter war soon. I sure hope so.

P.S. Day 2 I broke my blog pledge. Time to start afresh.

The Mysterious Sweatshirt Stain Strikes Again

I had a hard time coming up with inspiration looking at a blank Photoshop document drawing using the tablet. Solution: old school it.

I've also included a real life photo of my latest sweatshirt stain. Every single sweatshirt I own (and I own an embarrassingly large number) has a stain on it from something mysterious. This brand new one is included, now. I'm peeved.

P.S. Day one on my new pledge to be a better blogger for my readers is complete.

Inexcusable Absences Do Not Make for Good Blogs

An old TRS and message to myself, but it always applies. It should be sized for computer screen awesomeness. Enjoy.

Also, I realized today that all the blogs/comics I read involve several things:
1. regular updates
2. awesomeness
3. no excuses or unexplained absences

I think that "regular updates" thing is what keeps me from getting lots of you, understandably. I wouldn't read this if I didn't know me so well, and even then I'd get frustrated with the patchy and sporadic comics. I'm going to try and start fixing that, I promise.

If you did read this today, then I owe you one, faithful reader. Thanks for sticking with me. You're awesome. :)

Just a Link Tonight

To wrap up sea life with facial hair week, I leave you with an awesome typeface mustache adventure. How could you possibly go wrong with that?

Enjoy the weekend, I know I have. :)

Last of the Coloring Pages

At least for a while this is the last coloring page I'll do. I've learned a lot from this experiment (like how to make good coloring pages) so more than likely they'll be back again.

In the meantime, this is a scallop (unknown sp.) with a Napolean III Imperial Beard. Who even knew such facial hair styles existed? Not I, friends.

Time for bed, see you tomorrow.

Sometimes You Need a Salvador Dali Mustache

I did not forget about the coloring pages, but I'm going back to the west coast tomorrow, so this weekend was a little hectic with packing etc.

Here's the dungeness crab with a Dali mustache. It fits really, really well. This should not be confused with a evil villain mustache. Also, according to wikipedia the genus name has changed to "Metacarcinus" based on a genetic study, but I'll stick with its old-fashioned name until I get ahold of that paper.

See you tomorrow!

Coloring Old Man Jelly

Jellies. Man, look at that sweet, giant, old man beard.

Normally that's the part of the jelly that would be oral tentacles and mouth, but it was easy to co-opt into facial hair. And really, what is a beard if not a "flavor saver" or feeding apparatus?

Also: two posts in one day! Phew!

Coloring Fangtooth Fish

The first of my "mustachioed sea creatures" line of coloring pages.

Here, this fangtooth fish has a Dastardly Dan 'stache. Pretty epic, noez?

Today is my birthday, so I'm chillin' like a villain and cooking. You can expect at least one more of these today, and several more over the coming days. They're really fun to do, actually. :)

That IS Exactly What Hipster Dinos Would Be Like

This brilliance is what I've been looking at all week. It's been hot and miserable (I slept downstairs last night, because the AC is better there) and I haven't drawn much.

But I have been looking at that at least once a day, and cracking up all over again.

Oddly enough, this makes two consecutive dinosaur posts.

I may or may not be doing a series of "sea creatures with facial hair" coloring pages after an amazing idea from someone I know...
