Hang in There

This is actually the first draft of a piece that I'm thinking of putting into my portfolio for "drawing science good" grad school. I drew it on a recent visit to the Shedd Aquarium this winter.

If I had to give it a comic title though, it's be "Hang in there."

If There Is, I'm Screwed

A Softer World invertebrate tribute (the first in a long time). This is a Rossia pacifica, which as far as I'm aware of is not eaten for calamari and is not a true squid at all. This one was collected for research near Friday Harbor, WA. Mouse-over text: "if there is, I'm screwed"

Humboldt and I

Humboldt squid, Dosidicus gigas, actually travel in shoals, but after 2.5 hours of work on one squid I was not up to drawing more. This was all freehand (fun!) using primarily this image as reference. The dots are bioluminescence, which there is a lot of in the ocean.

Just wait until I get my auxiliary gills.  Just wait.
